South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) provides care dependency grants to parents or caretakers who have disabled children. Those children who want full-time care from their parents and also aged under 18 years.

Eligibility Criteria For Sassa Care Dependency Grant

If you want to apply for your child you have to follow the criteria. If you can fulfill this criteria then you will be eligible for grant otherwise your application may face the result in the form of failure. Here’s the criteria for eligibility:

  • Applicant and child both must have local citizens.
  • Both are residents in the state of South Africa.
  • Children must meet the criteria that is under 18 years old.
  • If you are not parents you must have legal documents of the custody of the child.

  • Meet the criteria of means test along with your spouse (if married).

How Can I Check my Care Dependency Grant Status?

First of all you have to apply for the grant along with all documents which we discussed above. It takes some time for being approval due to high number of applications, when your grant will approve then you can check the status by following: 

  • You have to visit https://sassacheckers.co.za/.
  • Enter 13 digits Id number along with registered mobile number.
  • Click on the submit button your request will give to the database.
  • The status of your grant will display on screen along with your Id.

It shows the current status of your grant. If your grant is approved then you can take it on a monthly basis. If status shows pending you have to wait more for processing when the authentication process will complete status update automatically. 

How to Apply for Sassa Care Dependency Grant?

Applying process is not too tricky you can easily apply for grant of your children by following:

  • You must have the medical report of your child which indicates the disability of the child.
  • Officials can check the report and will decide whether you are able for that grant or not.
  • Visit the nearest Sassa Office to apply for the grant.
  • Request for the form which is necessary for applying.
  • Fill the form accurately and correctly otherwise it takes delay.
  • Attach all required documents along with that form.
  • After a few times they will announce your status.
  • It takes some time to process.

What is the Current Value of Sassa Care Dependency Grant in 2025?

When this grant was first introduced, the amount was R1,890. Over time, it has increased in response to the rising cost of living. The grant amount was then increased by R10, bringing it to R2,090. Later, an additional increment of R100 was added, resulting in a new amount of R2,190. Most recently, a further increase of R30 was implemented, making the current value of the Care Dependency Grant R2,220 as of April 2025. There is hope that another adjustment may occur in the coming months, depending on government budget allocations.

Care Dependency Grant Declined Reasons

  • If you are involved in any kind of state institution.
  • You are absent from the country or your child is absent for which you want to grant.
  • You fill the form wrong by mistake.
  • After applying you are not concerned with the department and do not cooperate with them.
  • In case your child passed away.
  • Fail to claim your grant for consecutive three months.

What if Sassa Care Dependency Grant Declined?

If you are sure about that you are eligible according to criteria but still face declined issue after applying so you can follow these steps for grant approval:.

  • Visit Sassa official website.
  • You have to put in your Id and registered phone number.
  • You will receive an otp on your cell phone along with a link.
  • Select the month for which your application declined.
  • Give the reason for Sassa declined like you put wrong info or something else.
  • Click on the submit button and now wait for approval.
