This grant is only for senior citizens who served for their nation during wars. Only those are applicable for this grant who served in world war II (1939 – 1945) or the korean war (1950 – 1953) those seniors who was participants in any one of them can avail this grant.

Not every single one who was included in this war can avail this grant because the number of applicants will be in huge amounts. So there are some criteria who are currently financially disturbed can avail this grant for their better lifestyle in this age.

Eligibility Criteria For War Veterans Grant

If you are financially not stable at your old age and you were a participant in the second world war or korean war then you can get the grant from Sassa. But you have to fulfill the criteria which we discuss below: 

  • You must be a citizen of South Africa.
  • Also resident in the country.
  • Age must be above than 60 or having a disability.
  • Must be a participant during world war II or korean war.
  • Not getting any other grant from the government.
  • Must not be in any state care institution.
  • Meet the criteria of means test along with your spouse (if married).

  • Proof of permanent resident of South Africa.
  • Proof of your income.
  • Income of your spouse too (if married).
  • Assets proof including property you own.
  • Dependent child proof income (if any).

What is the Means Test for Sassa War Veterans Grant?

This test shows whether you are eligible for the grant or not. So you must have to meet the criteria, you can face this test while you are applying for your grant.

Income Threshold

  1. Single Person: The annual income must not exceed R96,840 (equivalent to R8,070 per month).
  2. Married Couple: The combined annual income must not exceed R193,680 (equivalent to R16,140 per month).

Assets Threshold

  1. Single Person: The total value of assets must not exceed R1,372,800.
  2. Married Couple: The combined value of assets must not exceed R2,745,600.

How Can I Check my War Veterans Grant Status?

You must have to meet the criteria while applying if you think you are applicable for this grant and you collect all required documents. Then after applying you can trace your status by following steps:

  • You have to visit https://sassacheckers.co.za/
  • Enter 13 digits Id number along with registered mobile number.
  • Click on the submit button your request will give to the database.
  • The status of your grant will display on screen along with your Id.

It will simply show you the current status of your application if you are facing any kind of issue you can concern with the department. Sometimes you have to give some additional information. So it is mandatory and recommended you can check the status on a daily basis until you get approval from Sassa.

  • If you are unable to visit you may apply through any trusted family member or friend.
  • Request for the form which is necessary for applying.
  • Fill the form accurately because in case of wrong information you may face declined.
  • Attach all required documents along with that form.
  • After a few times they will announce your status.
  • It takes some time to process.
  • You will receive a notification regarding your grant in case of approval you can get your grant on a monthly basis.

What is the Current Value of Sassa War Veterans Grant in 2025?

As of April 1, 2025, the SASSA War Veterans Grant has been increased to R2,315 per month, reflecting a R130 increment from the previous amount of R2,185. (Gauteng News). This adjustment is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to provide financial relief to war veterans, ensuring they have the necessary resources to support their well-being.

Please note that SASSA periodically reviews grant amounts, and further adjustments may be announced later in the year.

War Veterans Grant Declined Reasons

  • If you are involved in any kind of state institution.
  • You may cheat for taking the grant.
  • You are absent from the country or your child is absent for which you want to grant.
  • You fill the form wrong by mistake.
  • After applying you are not concerned with the department and do not cooperate with them.
  • In case of death of an applicant.
  • Fail to claim your grant for consecutive three months.

What if Sassa War Veteran Grant Declined?

If you were a participant in the second world war or the korean war and your current financial status is not stable. You are eligible for the grant but in case after submission of application you still face a declined issue.

  • Select the month for which your application declined.
  • Give the reason for Sassa declined like you put wrong info or something else.
