This grant is only for senior citizens who served for their nation during wars. Only those are applicable for this grant who served in world war II (1939 – 1945) or the korean war (1950 – 1953) those seniors who was participants in any one of them can avail this grant.

Eligibility Criteria For War Veterans Grant
If you are financially not stable at your old age and you were a participant in the second world war or korean war then you can get the grant from Sassa. But you have to fulfill the criteria which we discuss below:
- You must be a citizen of South Africa.
- Also resident in the country.
- Age must be above than 60 or having a disability.
- Must be a participant during world war II or korean war.
- Not getting any other grant from the government.
- Must not be in any state care institution.
- Meet the criteria of means test along with your spouse (if married).

What is the Means Test for Sassa War Veterans Grant?

Income Threshold
- Single Person: The annual income must not exceed R96,840 (equivalent to R8,070 per month).
- Married Couple: The combined annual income must not exceed R193,680 (equivalent to R16,140 per month).
Assets Threshold
- Single Person: The total value of assets must not exceed R1,372,800.
- Married Couple: The combined value of assets must not exceed R2,745,600.

What is the Current Value of Sassa War Veterans Grant in 2025?
As of April 1, 2025, the SASSA War Veterans Grant has been increased to R2,315 per month, reflecting a R130 increment from the previous amount of R2,185. (Gauteng News). This adjustment is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to provide financial relief to war veterans, ensuring they have the necessary resources to support their well-being.
Please note that SASSA periodically reviews grant amounts, and further adjustments may be announced later in the year.
War Veterans Grant Declined Reasons
- If you are involved in any kind of state institution.
- You may cheat for taking the grant.
- You are absent from the country or your child is absent for which you want to grant.
- You fill the form wrong by mistake.
- After applying you are not concerned with the department and do not cooperate with them.
- In case of death of an applicant.
- Fail to claim your grant for consecutive three months.
